gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan & vegetarian
We have developed the Soutra menu to cater for customers with specific dietary requirements. This includes for those who are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian. We have developed lots of recipes with non-gluten ingredients, in particular. Here are just a few of our favourite recipes:
- Lemon drizzle
- Non-gluten shortbread
- Non-gluten and non-dairy victoria sponge
- Vegan meringues with berries

The vast majority of our menu is suitable for vegetarian customers. There are always vegetarian choices in our savoury dishes. It’s rare for any homebaking to have non-vegetarian ingredients. The only exception, perhaps, is at Christmas when mince pies might contain animal fats. Please just ask us if you are not sure about the ingredients.

We are really proud that many of our customers come specifically for our “gluten-free” baking options. To be more precise, we are careful to make sure we always have a choice of cakes, shortbread and traybakes with “non-gluten ingredients”. We also have non-gluten ingredients bread and we don’t use gluten ingredients in our soups.
We have a selection of dairy-free milk to enjoy in coffee. Customers who require a dairy-free diet will find a number of options on the menu. At least one soup each day is likely to be dairy-free – please just ask us about ingredients. We have suitable lunches which include baked potatoes and paninis. Vegan meringues are a tasty dairy-free treat to finish.
You will find items on the Soutra menu which are suitable for vegan customers. This includes several milk alternatives. We bake homemade vegan meringues as well as a selection of other vegan bakes. Our soups of the day usually include a vegan option, and we have savoury fillings which are suitable for vegan customers including roasted veg and hummus.
